Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra seems one of the most promising videogame projects from Marvel but it seems we need to wait quite a bit longer for the game to arrive as Paramount has just confirmed it’ll not be released until at least 2027. In a recent interview with IGN, Shawn Kittelsen, the head of creative at the new Paramount gaming division, confirmed that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra won’t be arriving in 2026.
“So there was a decision made that rather than try to push the game out as quickly as possible, it would be better to focus on the quality of the game and making sure the team has time to cook. So we’re giving them the time to cook. We believe in Amy and the whole team there and supporting them, and that game will come out when it’s ready. But it is very real and we are continuing to invest in it.”
Marvel 1943 is an action adventure title featuring iconic Marvel characters such as Captain America and Black Panther and takes place in an unusual historical setting in the form of the 1940’s Paris. First announced back in October 2021, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has already suffered multiple delays but most worryingly, we haven’t seen any actual gameplay footage from the title yet but hopefully we’ll get to see one before the end of this year.
But perhaps, the most reassuring aspect about the upcoming title is the following statement from Kittelsen which emphasizes that the devs have huge ambitions for Marvel 1943 and they are actively working to make it all come alive:
“It’s happening. It’s playable. I’ve got my SpongeBob controller here, but it’s on my hard drive right now. So I can go through and play the build. We’re continuing development on it, but Amy and the team have big ambitions for the level of quality that they want to hit. They are a relatively small team considering the AAA quality that they’re delivering. What you’ve seen in previous footage is what the game looks like, and we’re making it with a fraction of the resources that you see on other AAA games of the same type, and really trying to push a new development model that’s a lot more responsible and sustainable.”
