Marvel’s Wolverine features a sizable number of characters from the comics and they’re all instantly recognizable by both fans and players alike such as Jean Grey, Sabretooth, Omega Red and more. So with this many characters set to show up in Wolverine, it’s only natural to wonder whether our favorite wall crawler who is none other than Spider-Man would appear at some point in the game too. But according to the devs themselves, he won’t, in any way, shape or form.
In a recent interview with IGN, Marcus Smith, the creative director of Marvel’s Wolverine, has confirmed that although the upcoming title takes place in the same Universe, the game won’t feature a meeting between the two iconic characters from Marvel.
“It’s correct that it does take place in the 1048 Marvel Universe, which is the Insomniac video game universe. It happens in the same world, but we don’t have any crossover. Spider-Man will not be making an appearance in Wolverine.”
Although as Spider-Man still exists in the same world, the possibilities are there for a future crossover which could be Spider-Man 3, perhaps.
However, even though the wall crawler won’t be making an appearance in Marvel’s Wolverine, there will be one particular character from the comics who will and moreover, will be teaming up with Logan during several parts in the game as well. And if you’re still wondering who that character is, it’s Sabretooth, one of Wolverine’s arch-enemies but won’t be a major villain in Insomniac’s title, as confirmed by game director Mike Daly.
“In this game, Logan and Sabretooth are actually on a team together,” Daly explained, “but the way they ally is not really anything like the way you ally with Jean Grey.”
“Logan and Sabretooth have a very competitive dynamic between them. Whereas Jean Grey might give you an opportunity to get a kill, with Sabretooth fighting alongside you, it’s more like, you think you’ve got a kill and he rushes in to steal it from you, and their combat banter brings out that dynamic and makes the whole fight more fun.”
Wolverine will be slashing it’s way to the Playstation 5 on September 15 this year.
