With alarmingly high costs across different PC hardware and even some of the consoles like both PS5 and PS5 Pro (the former is now $100 more expensive while the latter $150 more), it’s safe to say that the gaming industry has seen better days. And now, the Switch 2 may also see a higher price tag, according to a former Nintendo retail lead who has stated the following in the Kit & Krysta podcast:
“Unfortunately, I think eventually the hardware price is going to have to go up,” Sean said. “I think that there are things that they can and seem to be doing to try and mitigate that, but I also look at this move on on software as–if I’m reading it correctly–a way to make a hardware price increase a little bit more palatable. We’ve seen inflation being a problem for a while now. Tariffs are a more recent nuisance, but they’re not going away anytime soon. The demand that AI is causing for chips is causing memory prices to go up, and within the past couple of weeks, we have issues with oil prices going through the roof.”
The Nintendo employee, who’s only known as “Sean” which suggests his intention to remain anonymous, also said that the company’s decision to charge less for all it’s downloadable titles could really help mitigate any player backlash after the price hike, which makes sense.
Sean also added that the increase in the price of Helium which plays a vital role in the production of semiconductors, will also be a major deciding factor with the pricing of the Switch 2 in the near future.
On the other hand, many other experts have also talked about the possibility of a sharp increase in price for the Switch 2, mostly cause of the worldwide RAM shortage that’s going on which has already sent prices skyrocketing throughout the hardware industry.
