The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is simply one of the few unmissable videogame experiences that deserves revisiting time and again and the Unreal Engine 5 powered Remaster not only brought the original game to the sky high technical standards of 2025, but also polished many of it’s core gameplay aspects to a level that wasn’t in the original release. This resulted in a game that not only looked better but also played better than it’s base version, just like a great remaster should be.
But despite all of that, the modernized version of the 2006 classic still suffered from an assortment of technical issues ranging from glaring performance problems to other annoying inconsistencies and worst of all, the game’s continuous drop in performance the more you play it which was a bug from the time it was launched. However, those persistent issues may soon get removed permanently as Bethesda has finally confirmed that a new patch is in the works and will bring optimizations which were originally made for the Switch 2 version of the game.
The publisher wrote on Twitter/X yesterday: “We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.”
The official announcement has made both fans and players of the game highly excited as now there’s a real possibility that all of the recurring problems with Oblivion Remastered may finally go away, especially the game-breaking bug which causes performance to get worse the more you play.
Oblivion Remastered went on to become an unprecedented success as the game was confirmed to reach a staggering 9 million players in the span of just 3 months after release, making it one of the biggest hits of last year.
