The Coalition has just revealed tons of new gameplay features for the upcoming and hotly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day, and where the recent multiplayer reveal took us through the online and co-op components of the game, the new official blog post from the devs provides a closer look at many of the moment-to-moment gameplay aspects of E-Day.

The post has also made it clear that Gears of War: E-Day has actually managed to innovate and add to a lot of the signature gameplay elements that’s considered as hallmarks of the series, which means if you’re veteran of the Gears series, you’ll find lots of delightful surprises in E-Day.

Firstly, the devs have added more depth and nuance to the dynamic cover system of the series, including a new ‘low ground’ cover that enables players to hide behind lower walls and other debris, moreover, you can also drop into prone once the upper half of your cover gets shredded by gunfire. Overall, the new addition to the series’ staple cover mechanics allows for more spontaneous and intuitive gameplay experience as well as increased realism.

However, the area which has seen the most amount of changes is movements which will feel weighty, natural and fluid, and will also add a tactical element into the gameplay where you need to carefully plan your approach in fights. When sprinting, you’ll have far more control and the camera changes views to provide more awareness of the battlefield, also, sprinting now has a nod to Roadie Run “as your Gear hunches and plants their first few steps, keeping that slightly lower profile while doing quick cover-to-cover moves”.

A new addition into the movements is the ability to Slide which can be triggered to get a lower approach on the target, and you can also shoot during sliding which opens up exciting new gameplay opportunities in E-Day.

Another new gameplay feature is Jumping and Climbing which brings a sense of verticality and more traversal options to E-Day than all the previous titles in the series. Now you can jump towards walls, ledges and even vehicles and climb yourself up, also, you can “mantle and climb without entering cover first – just face the object and press the button, whether you’re in or out of cover.”

Then there’s also Cover Gaps which allows players to traverse various distances while maintaining cover by sliding or ducking.

Check out the full list of new additions and features in Gears of War: E-Day which will make the moment-to-moment gameplay experience even more immersive and engaging.

The standard edition of Gears of War: E-Day comes at $69.99 while the premium version costs $99 which also includes the following bonus contents:

  • Up to 5-Days Early Access
  • Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack
  • Five Seasonal Customization Packs, starting with the Emergence Pack at launch (the remaining packs will be available as released)
  • 1,000 Iron (premium in-game currency)

Gears of War E-Day is set to release on October 6, 2026 exclusively for Xbox Series S|X.
