How to Fish is a new cooperative game that definitely seems to be made just for the memes, it shows how simple game creation has become when you leverage engines to make games. Back then, even something that today looks simple and primitive took months or even years to develop, that was because everything was done in assembly code. Game development on PC, for better or for worse, has become one of the most accessible things ever. To the point you can be a nobody, and in the next day become a viral sensation if things go right, it also brings some new problems too.
How to Fish is a surprise catch
I don’t know if the game is good, I only know that it exists and it blew up, at the very least everyone on Steam seems to enjoy it, but one can never trust reviews that come from Steam unless its just a portion of the negative ones. For all we know, most positive reviews are just memes from people who didn’t even play the game either, even if they have it. It is crazy that Steam doesn’t enforce any sort of solid guidelines for things to happen.
It is crazy that things like this can happen, but a while ago a game called Meccha Chameleon also broke some similar records, albeit, not with the speed that How to Fish managed to do it. Sometimes memes blow up, and other times perfectly crafted games that are true hidden gems are lost in the piles of average. There is a ton of games out there, some even question if making a lot is even a good thing, some take a hard stance saying that some people shouldn’t make games. However, games are art, provided people do them with their own hands, and How To Fish seems inoffensive.
