The next mainline entry in the iconic Tomb Raider series of games, named Tomb Raider: Catalyst, has now been confirmed to get delayed into 2028. In a recent interview with The Game Guisness, the head of Amazon Games, Jeffrey Gattis, has revealed that the release window of Tomb Raider: Catalyst has now been moved to 2028, while stating the following:
“Obviously, we’ve announced the two Tomb Raider titles,” “[Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis] comes February 12th of next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one. We’re excited about those.”
First unveiled during The Game Awards 2025, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is the next-gen entry in the series by developer Crystal Dynamics, which was first announced three years ago, and will be released for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game’s official description states the following:
“Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them”.
“When the most notorious treasure hunters from around the world descend on the region, Lara races to uncover the truth buried beneath the fractured landscape and stop those who would use its power for their own gain. As the ancient world collides with the present, Lara must decide who to trust among rivals and allies to prevent a catastrophe and protect a secret that could reshape the future.”
Lara Croft’s new adventure will be crafted by the state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 5 and published by Amazon Game Studios, an official cinematic trailer was also unveiled in The Game Awards last year which highlighted the iconic character’s signature dual pistols as well as an exciting new addition–a wrist-mounted grappling hook that can be used for both traversal and combat. We saw a few glimpses of the new gadget in action in the trailer and it looks like it can open a lot of possibilities for melee attacks along with traversal mechanics.
The cinematic trailer also showcased breathtaking vistas and epic landscapes, hinting that Lara Croft’s upcoming new adventure will be a delight for the senses, when it comes out in 2028.
The delay to 2028 does make a lot of sense considering that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis which is a modern-day re-imagining of the classic game, will be released in 2027 and so releasing Catalyst in 2028 will definitely provide some breathing room to the remake.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is confirmed to be released on February 12, 2027 in three different editions along with a 48-hour early access pre-order bonus.
