Marvel’s Wolverine just got a new full length story trailer showcasing lots of characters from the X-Men along with their relationships with Logan, the narrative depth, scale and even some of the boss fights in the upcoming title. This most recent trailer also confirms that developer Insomniac has really been cooking with Wolverine all this time and gives a tantalizing glimpse of a lot of stuff that we’ll get to experience when the game comes out in September.
Although when looking at the trailer, it’s really hard not to lament for the fact that it won’t be coming out for the PC, unlike Insomniac’s previous Spider-Man titles.
And here’s the full synapses for the latest trailer which lays out the narrative backdrop for the upcoming title: “New allies and formidable adversaries emerge in the clash for mutant survival. As Wolverine, unite with Jean Grey to protect those most vulnerable. Fight alongside Team X to confront the world’s deadliest villains, including Bolivar Trask, Omega Red, and Deathstrike, and stand against oppressive forces like The Reavers and The Hand.”
Just like the previous CGI story trailer, the new one also makes it abundantly clear that the upcoming Wolverine from Insomniac Games is not just going to be yet another by-the-numbers videogame adaptation based on the iconic Marvel character but the studio is going to put a fresh new spin on the titular character and make this particular incarnation of Wolverine completely their own, just as they’ve already done with Spider-Man.
The new trailer also shows how the upcoming game humanizes the popular Marvel character in many ways, from focusing on his relationship with Jean Grey and during many other great moments that highlight the duality in Wolverine’s character as he tries to hold on to his more humanly nature, all of which point to a narrative full of memorable character moments and emotional arcs.
Marvel’s Wolverine comes out in two different editions–the Standard version of the game will cost you $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe version sports a price tag of $79.99. There’s no mention of a collector’s edition that’s geared towards enthusiasts so if you were hoping for physical collectibles like statues and maybe action figures, looks like there won’t be any of that.
The way Insomniac took Spider-Man and pretty much reinvented him up to the towering standards of current-gen AAA gaming, from both technical and mechanical standpoints, it sure looks like they have done the same with Wolverine as well, which is slashing it’s way into the Playstation 5 on September 15 this year.
