Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Blocked in 132 Countries Over PSN Requirement

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be unavailable in 132 countries on PC due to a mandatory PlayStation Network account requirement. Discovered via the game’s SteamDB listing ahead of its August 6, 2026 release, this digital lock prevents PC players in regions lacking native PSN access from purchasing or playing the upcoming fighting game. Users attempting to access the game’s Steam page from these restricted regions have reported receiving error messages blocking their purchase.

Arc System Works and Sony Interactive Entertainment appear to be enforcing the PSN requirement to support the title’s extensive crossplay infrastructure. Incorporating online lobbies and ranked matchmaking, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls relies on PlayStation Network integration to seamlessly link the PC and PlayStation 5 player bases. However, tying essential multiplayer infrastructure to a specific platform account restricts availability in global markets where Sony does not officially operate.

This controversial mandate mirrors the backlash Sony faced during the PC launch of Helldivers 2, where a delayed PSN enforcement prompt led to widespread review bombing and community protests. In that instance, community outrage eventually pressured Sony to reverse its policy, allowing Steam players to retain access without a mandatory PSN link. The decision to implement the same restrictive account policy for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls signals a return to Sony’s stricter platform integration goals for PC publishing.

The region-locking controversy adds to a growing wave of community friction for Sony Interactive Entertainment. The publisher has recently faced public scrutiny following its announced plan to discontinue physical media on PlayStation hardware by 2028, alongside the scheduled closure of the legacy PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita storefronts by 2027. Despite the building momentum for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls following its roster reveals at EVO 2026, the current platform restrictions on Steam have altered the pre-launch conversation for a significant portion of the international fighting game community.
