It was revealed yesterday that future bond titles after the newly released 007 First Light will be published by Amazon and MGM and while these two companies did collaborate on First Light in order to make sure that the resulting game will be of the same standard that was expected from the brand, all future titles will see much more involvement from them. However, that announcement had also led to some concerns whether IO Interactive will remain as a developer for the sequels or not, and in a quick response, Amazon has put all of those doubts to rest and assured that the devs will be back for all future Bond titles.
“Amazon MGM holds the rights to any future James Bond video games but it’s still too early to discuss future projects.
We have a great relationship with IO Interactive and are proud of what we’ve accomplished together on 007 First Light. Our partners at IO will reveal more about 007 First Light in the near future and we’re looking forward to sharing what’s next.”
While the statement adds little to what many of us already knew, it does reaffirm the notion that IO Interactive will be at the helm of all future Bond games after 007 First Light. Also, it’s only sensible that the devs who crafted the game that’s off to being a smash hit worldwide, will be the same ones who get to make the sequels. It won’t sit well with the fans if the publishers decide to let another studio make the next Bond game, for obvious reasons.
007 First Light came out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC on 27th May and swiftly became the highest rated James Bond title in the last 15 years, or even more. With a highly impressive 87 Metacritic score, developer IO Interactive’s 007 First Light shines vividly and is certainly the best Bond game in several decades.
