Xbox is currently undergoing some huge changes that’ll affect many of the platform’s core elements including modifications on the pricing of multiple Game Pass tiers, re-evaluating the exclusivity of many of it’s landmark titles and more. And in a new mission statement regarding the future of Xbox on all of these aspects and more, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and CCO Matt Booty have stated the following:
“Xbox will be built to be affordable, personal, and open. We will offer flexible pricing so it’s easy to get started and keep playing. The experience will adapt to you, letting you customize how you play, helping you find what you’ll love, and connecting you with the right people. And we will be open to all creators, from individuals to the largest studios, giving anyone the tools to reach a global audience and keep their games growing over time,” their statement reads.
They also reflected on how the Xbox Game Pass subscription service is helping players access an ever-expanding library of titles:
“More players are also choosing subscriptions and services as their primary way to play, with expectations set around instant access, ongoing value, and libraries that evolve continuously.”
The new executives have also confirmed that they’ll be looking into the platform’s exclusivity along with approach to AI:
“Along the way, we will reevaluate our approach to exclusivity, windowing, and AI, and share more as we learn and decide.”
All of these definitely seem hugely ambitious and pivotal for the Xbox brand and it’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft executes these changes moving ahead.
Microsoft has also reduced the price of several tiers in Game Pass recently with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from $29.99 per month to now $22.99 per month and PC Game Pass now at $13.99 from the earlier price of $16.49. All changes are set to take effect immediately while also removing new Call of Duty games from day-one releases in both tiers of Game Pass and which will only be available “during the following holiday season (about a year later)”.
