In a recent, lengthy post on their social media page, developer S-GAME, the studio behind the upcoming wuxia action role-playing title Phantom Blade Zero, has stated that they’ve avoided any form of AI usage for the making of their game. The devs believe that, as they wrote in their post, ‘human artistry is not merely a means for creating value; it is the value itself’, which is just phenomenally put and pretty awe-inspiring to hear a developer valuing the human element in videogames as much.
The studio also confirmed that Phantom Blade Zero is currently in it’s last stage of development and went on to confirm that they’re not being forced to resort to AI technology to get more stuff done quicker as the game approaches accelerated timeline.
“We are fully aware that a profound technological revolution is unfolding around us. However, to this day, every single piece of content in our game has been crafted by the hands of real artists. We will not use AI visual tech that could alter our artists’ original creative intent.”
“We firmly believe that human artistry is not merely a means for creating value; it is the value itself. S-GAME didn’t just hire a group of developers to make a game; rather, in our pursuit of continuously building an exceptional, passionate team, we decided to make a game that everyone here could be deeply proud of.”
In an era when most other studios and companies are openly supporting AI usage and even going as far as to reduce hundreds of staffs altogether, it’s certainly refreshing and inspiring to see a developer valuing human artistry so highly. Their empowering perspective on artists and live human developers will definitely resonate strongly with players and could also result in Phantom Blade Zero becoming a hit for all the right reasons.
Hands-on previews of Phantom Blade Zero have suggested that it’s not an out-an-out Soulslike title but actually leans more toward action games like Stellar Blade which should be plenty exciting in many ways.
