Sacred 2 Remaster just got a big patch that aims at fixing various issues reported by the community of PC players. Unfortunately this does not solve the underlying issues of the game, mainly that the textures and everything related to the graphics side has been sloppified with poor upscaling and terrible looks. This is hideous to look at and you might as well just play the original game that is still compatible with many systems. Many of these ports are often a huge miss when it comes to features because they just happen to be more broken than the original game.
Sacred 2 Remaster still struggles
Currently sitting on a highly negative score, I genuinely can’t bring myself to recommend you to get this game, just play the original Sacred and Sacred 2 that you can get from any part of the internet if you so desire. There is more fun in playing the original versions with their vast mod support compared to playing the remastered versions that is often written in a sloppier and less efficient engine that adds tons of bloat that didn’t exist in the original game. It is impressive to compare the sizes of the original versus the remaster in most cases.
Remasters like the one Sacred 2 has are quite common, and it genuinely causes people to not even care about buying them compared to a remake, however remakes always run the risk of ruining the original game. There must be a balance, remasters should be done well, and remakes should also include a way to play the original game as an obligatory requirement to be released in the first place. By giving people the ability to play both, not only do you give them more agency, but you also preserve your own history if you care about the things you make.
