Neople has blundered quite badly with this one, and the worst part is that The First Berserker Khazan is quite the decent take on the souls-like genre. However one can understand why this wouldn’t have been so successful in the first place, the fact that you can’t customize a character to your liking in the same way that the Dark Souls series offers is a big draw. Let’s also mention the fact that this game still seems to have Denuvo DRM in it, and as we know it if the game isn’t amazing then people don’t buy stuff with Denuvo on top of it. Now Neople announced its reshuffling the team.
Neople did a big oopsie
I feel like this game lacked the proper publicity behind it, and there should have been more of a push to get it more recognized by everyone. Unfortunately this couldn’t be the case for it, and as we see when a game does not get enough publicity on a genre that is getting bloated with new releases, it just ends up drowning in the lot of them. Hopefully this is the moment that people notice that the game is quite underrated and deserves a chance, even if its not the greatest game ever.
One wonders how popular this game would have become if it was covered by big Youtubers or other influential people on Twitch, however I still think it would have remained somewhat of an underdog regardless. This definitely shows that there might not be a sequel, or perhaps there won’t be any sort of weird experiment like this coming from the hands of a developer known for making MMO games. Things could change however, and news about Khazan not being a huge hit might trigger a chain reaction of people buying it in masse. If indie developers can have that fate, Neople can too.
