Clearly shaping up to be one of the surefire hits of this year, Crimson Desert is estimated to have made over $200 million in revenue since it came out two weeks ago, with the PS5 being a huge contributor to these impressive sales figures.
According to Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, Crimson Desert “has silenced sceptics (and the stock market…), who feared a rocky critical reception would hinder potential among consumers in the long term. Crimson has already made over $200M across platforms, including almost $75M via PS5, proving that there is a massive appetite for high-fidelity, single-player-focused sandboxes. On PS5, Crimson has carved out a specific demographic of enthusiasts that less global market data misses (but we don’t).”
Their analysis also reveals that a significant part of the overall playerbase for Crimson Desert are gamers who have played Dragon’s Dogma 2, which indicates the open world title being a particularly cherished one for lovers of High-Fantasy Action RPGs: “Our estimates show that 38% of PS5 Crimson Desert players have also played Dragon’s Dogma 2. This is significantly higher than the overlap with more mainstream titles like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows or Expedition 33. Weird and wonderful RPG fans, let’s go.”
Crimson Desert has also reached another huge sales milestone as the open world title is now confirmed to have sold over 4 million copies worldwide, with the numbers destined to go even higher in the coming weeks and months.
In other news of the game, the newest patch has removed some of the AI generated artworks that were previously found in the game, so in all possibility, Crimson Desert is now pretty much AI-free.
Also, a new skin based on Crimson Desert is now available for Fortnite, however it’s going to be a bit tricky to get the in-game skin as you need to purchase the game from Epic Games Store and only then you’ll receive the skin as a “gift with purchase” in Fortnite. Check out how to obtain the skin as Pearl Abyss describes on their social media page.
