Whenever Microsoft’s next-gen console arrives, it’s likely going to be one of the most expensive consoles ever released, which makes a lot of sense given the uncontrollably high and unfair prices for gaming hardware across the industry right now. Microsoft announced their next version of the Xbox earlier this week codenamed Project Helix which will be designed as a PC-Console hybrid in partnership with AMD and according to analyst and Kantan Games founder Dr. Serkan Toto, the next Xbox could cost as much as $900 or more.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, he weighted in on the possible pricing for the next Xbox:
“The PS5 Pro is $750 in the US, while the Xbox Series X with 2TB is [$800],” while adding that “There is absolutely no reason to expect Project Helix to be cheaper, so a base model could be priced at $900 and a more premium version at even more than that.”
Toto also believes that the ongoing RAM shortage would likely be over by the time Project Helix is put into actual production but could still cost quite a bit higher and “fans should brace for an expensive machine in any case.”
He also suspects a 2028 release window for Microsoft’s next console based on how Sony’s Playstation 5 has outperformed the Xbox systems in this current era of gaming:
“After Sony annihilated Microsoft with the PS4, they did it again with the PS5 – so the pressure to come up with a new approach is clearly on Xbox,” Toto said. “This generation is totally lost for Microsoft, so I believe a 2028 release date is realistic.”
And as Sony will possibly no longer release any of their next single-player based titles on the PC, it will also help boost the sales of their gaming platforms further in the coming years considering how great those games are.
