Marathon is out now, but people are still wondering when professional reviews of the game will be out. User reviews are out, but many publications have only published ‘in progress’ reviews of the game. Well it turns out there is a very good reason why full reviews of the game aren’t out yet.
Bungie and PlayStation have requested that numbered/full reviews of Marathon to be delayed until reviewers have experienced the Cyro Archive mode of the game. This is Marathon’s big endgame mode that will not be unlocked until the second half of May. As of time of writing, no exact release date for the game mode has been given yet.
As of this moment, user reviews on PlayStation, Steam and Xbox seems to be positive. These are real reviews from users who have actually bought the game. User reviews on Metacritic aren’t reliable because anyone can review bomb the game without actually playing it.
It does not look like Marathon will be a failure like Concord and Highguard. However, it remains to be seen of it will be as successful as the Destiny series.
