The hack-n-slash genre is steadily becoming a relic of the past however, last year’s Ninja Gaiden 4 somewhat brought it back for another glorious return to form with it’s breakneck speed, deep and satisfying combat system (easily the best since 2019’s Devil May Cry 5) and of course, relentless difficulty. But as phenomenal as Ninja Gaiden 4 was, it didn’t quite lead to the massive resurgence of the pure action genre as many players have hoped, cause it wasn’t nearly as accessible as the majority of gamers are accustomed to in the current era of gaming.
And now, with the recently released The Two Masters DLC, Ninja Gaiden 4 is back with a last hurrah as it brings three new story missions, two new weapons for both Yakumo and series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa which will definitely add a lot more luster into the gameplay, a new Bloody Palace-esque mode called The Abyssal Road and many quality of life improvements for the base game.
One of the best new elements of the DLC is Ryu’s Jakotsumon weapon which provides ample long range possibilities along with heavy close quarter damage that was missing in the base game where it always felt that the legendary super ninja somewhat lacked crowd control moves, especially when compared to Yakumo’s much more diverse combat toolkit.
In addition to all the new features, The Two Masters DLC also brings sort of a closure to both protagonists from the main game and considering this outing will probably be the last time you’ll get to see them before a really long time (considering how much time it took for Ninja Gaiden 4 to arrive after 3), it makes the new DLC all the more special for all fans of the series.
In a detailed blog post, the developers have outlined all of the new additions and gameplay features you’ll find in the new DLC including a heartfelt thanks to all players who have been patiently waiting for The Two Masters.
“Even players who have already cleared the game will find more scenarios to enjoy and new enemies awaiting them. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to play Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Two Masters DLC!”
If you’ve bought the Deluxe Edition for Ninja Gaiden 4 or even have the Deluxe upgrade, you’ll get the Two Masters DLC for free while all other players will be able to buy it as a standalone content pack for $14.99.
