Highguard is going offline very soon, but the team dropped a final update to ensure they can squeeze some more cents out of the player base before disappearing forever. The game, as expected, was a massive failure in a similar level to that of Concord, it did last a bit more than Concord but we can’t be really sure since that other game was really a blink it and miss it moment. People don’t want to deal with Live Service games anymore, that is clear, and the only one that really remains is that Marathon extraction shooter.
Concord fell so Highguard could too
Highguard is dead, even with this new update that gives us a new character to play and unlocks all the progression systems, nobody really cares about the game anymore. It didn’t even manage to peak at a 100.000 concurrent players on Steam, and now it barely has 500 people playing it constantly on Steam too, some will say that these metrics don’t matter but nowadays everything is a war for retention and capitalizing on your attention span. While the data is partial because it does not consider other platforms, it is still dire.
As people expected, this game would close quick, some even bet on the fact that it would take a little while compared to Concord, which had an spontaneous growth of players and then died so soon. It is finally here however, the moment everyone was waiting for, but what people didn’t expect is that a final update will drop, letting us play as Koldo, whoever that is. The game felt so generic to the point it almost blended with every single live service out there, while some ideas provided by Highguard are cool, I really wish this could have been a single player game rather than just another online perishable title.
