Developer Pearl Abyss has decided to add third party DRM Denuvo Anti-Tamper to their upcoming action RPG Crimson Desert, and a lot of players are highly disappointed by the addition. The recently updated SteamDB page (spotted by The Gamer) of Crimson Desert states the following: “Added 3rd-Party DRM – Denuvo Anti-tamper, 5 different PC within a day machine activation limit.”
Denuvo Anti-tamper is a software-based solution designed to prevent games from being pirated or cracked in any way, however this system has also resulted in affecting the overall performance of titles including reduced FPS, stuttering and more. In older games like Assassin’s Creed Origins, the Denuvo software had caused a significant dip in performance but for some other games, there have been a negligible impact in performance. So it remains to be seen how the anti-piracy system affects Crimson Desert which is certainly going to be one of the most demanding titles to have come out in recent years.
However, it’s worth noting that if you have a sufficiently high-end PC, then the overall effect of Denuvo, even if it causes a performance hit, will be minimal so ultimately it really comes down to your rig. But anyways, Denuvo is definitely a wild card and it’s currently unknown whether or how much it’ll impact the upcoming Crimson Desert.

In other news of Crimson Desert, we finally have our first look at the game running on the PS5 Pro courtesy of Digital Foundry and it indicates the game will look and run pretty well on the base PS5 along with the Xbox systems as well.
Crimson Desert is scheduled to release on March 19 and the PC version of the game has already reached a staggering three million wishlists on Steam.
