Blackroots looks quite stunning, at least from what I can see with the trailer, this new PC horror game is quite unnerving and I genuinely want to check it out once it comes out. Many indie games often take years to be developed and the results are often surprising compared to triple A games that take years to be developed. This is due to the fact that indie developers set realistic expectations and downscale whatever they do, resulting in shorter, more accessible games that everyone wants to play. Blackroots has the opportunity to become a hit provided it drops this year.
Blackroots looks amazing
This game is being developed by a duo of siblings who really seem to be into horror, this is great, being able to collaborate alongside a family member often helps a lot with taking care of the hard parts of game development and even the creative differences. I’m happy to see families collaborating with each other to bring these art pieces to life and it seems like an amazing thing to do if you are just starting the game developer journey and you have a brother out there that wishes to help out.
Blackroots is very eldritchian in nature, based on works by Lovecraft and other authors focused in cosmic horror, which is quite the change of pace when a cooperative horror game drops, we need more things that are scary and focus on psychological horror rather than mere jumpscares for the sake of cheapness. I often say good horror games are dead, but when I look in current times at what indie developers do, I rest assured that the future of horror is in the hands of small developers who can pack quite a punch. Be it experimental, or just plain cosmic horror I’m sure that Blackroots has tons of potential behind it, so wishlist it.
