Several new details have emerged which suggest Sony could alter it’s plans of releasing their single player titles on the PC platform which means the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine which is scheduled for a September release in 2026, may not arrive on the PC at all. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier first revealed on the Triple Click Podcast that Sony could be “backing away from putting their exclusive console stuff like traditional single-player stuff on PC” in the near future although their live-service games like Helldivers 2 would remain on PC cause they depend on having a large player base which wouldn’t be possible on a single platform.
Recently, reliable leakers NatetheHate and SneakersSO have both supported Schreier’s claims of Sony making a drastic change regarding their PC releases which would effect all AAA game releasing on the platform inlcluding any future God of War sequels.
Schreier had also added that the publisher not releasing any more of their games on the PC may not turn out to be a big deal cause those titles hadn’t nearly been the hits they were on their native platform which is the Playstation 5. So there wouldn’t be that much of a consequence, at least from a sales perspective, all things considered.
And although it’s true that many of Sony’s PC ports haven’t been big hits like they have been on their own platform, a big reason for that is also the quality of those ports in the first place. For example, Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 was one of the biggest hits on the PS5 but it’s PC port which came out last year had a cavalcade of bugs and all sorts of technical problems which resulted in the game having weird visual glitches (even on sufficiently high end PCs) to poor performance across a wide range of GPU and CPUs.
And to top it all off, developer Nixxes didn’t bother to iron out all the issues and the port stopped receiving patches altogether after a few months with a lot of the problems still remaining in the game. So the poorly optimized port (at least in the case of Spider-Man 2) is a major reason why the game didn’t became a hit on the PC, and that needs to be considered as well.
