Sony has just revealed that last year’s Playstation 5 exclusive Ghost of Yotei has managed to outsell it’s predecessor Ghost of Tsushima in the same period of time, while also making a significant contribution toward the company’s financial results. Sony CFO Lion Tao has confirmed the sales milestone for Ghost of Yotei however, Sony is yet to provide any updated sales figures for Sucker Punch’s latest action adventure title.
“Ghost of Yotei, a tentpole title we released in October, exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time and significantly contributed to the financial results of the quarter.”
But in terms of total sales numbers, Ghost of Yotei may still have a bit of catching up to do as Ghost of Tsushima has sold around 13 million copies (including sales of the PC version) so far, but the former is definitely looking promising enough to beat that number in the long run, especially after Sucker Punch releases some DLCs or maybe an expansion pack.
Ghost of Yotei has also sold for $70 instead of it’s predecessor’s $60 price tag which means Yotei has higher dollar sales than Ghost of Tsushima. Also, the lockdown period of 2020 had likely resulted in a spike in the overall sales numbers for Ghost of Tsushima which Yotei doesn’t have. However, between the inevitable PC release in the form of a Director’s Cut in the near future plus the upcoming multiplayer component named Ghost of Yotei: Legends which is slated to release later this year, Yotei could just even up the gap.
Ghost of Yotei came out 2nd October and has received highly favorable reviews since it’s release with both it’s combat mechanics and engrossing narrative getting the most praises. In terms of gameplay, story and open world exploration, the game is considered a definite improvement and a natural evolution over it’s predecessor Ghost of Tshushima.
