When it comes to the overall wrestling experience, last year’s WWE 2K25 was pretty much the complete package and so it’s a bit hard to imagine how would the upcoming WWE 2K26 going to top it. But it seems one of the biggest ways this year’s premier wrestling title aims to stand apart from it’s predecessor is by adding several new match types that players haven’t seen before in the franchise. It was earlier revealed that CM Punk is going to be the focus of WWE 2K26’s Showcase mode and now it’s confirmed that these four new match types will be in the upcoming title as well.
The first new match type is going to be the ‘I Quit’ match which hasn’t been part of the WWE 2K series since WWE 2K14 and is sure to make a welcome return in the franchise, along with some added bells and whistles, probably. The second match type and one that was part of the older Smackdown vs Raw titles is the ‘Inferno Match’ where you can get to set your opponent on fire, literally.
And the last returning match type is the ‘3 Stages of Hell’ which lets players select three different stipulations for a 2-out-of-3 falls match and offers a degree of customization that you won’t find in any other type of matches in the series.
As for the new match type that’s never before seen in the series so far, WWE 2K26 is going to introduce the ‘Dumpster Match’ which is a bit of unknown at this point as to how it’s going to play out but more details are expected to come out soon.
The most ambitious entry in the long running series, WWE 2K25 was met with fairly positive reviews upon release with critics praising the numerous gameplay improvements and the overall number of tweaks that was implemented to make it stand out from it’s predecessor. Boasting the largest roster the series has ever seen till date with over 300 Wrestlers, WWE 2K25 also had a total of 5 DLC packs with each bringing lots of contents and playability to the game.
