Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human is one of the finest narrative driven titles to come out in recent years and despite releasing back in 2020 for the PC, the game continues to grow in the platform as it has seen a huge surge in sales over Steam’s Winter Sale last month, selling around a million units more. According to a report by Alinea Analytics, the recent growth in sales for Detroit: Become Human was facilitated by the game having a steep discount in the Valve platform where it’s price was reduced from $40 to just $4, making the entire experience go up in value exponentially.
“Given the low price, revenues amounted to just $3.2 million, still helping Detroit pass $150 million in Steam revenues and 7M Steam copies sold overall during the two weeks.”
Detroit: Become Human has also reached a new, all-time high peak player count of 25,615 users on January 4 in Steam, which is a testament to the game’s endearing quality in more ways than one.
In the same time frame, games like PEAK, Battlefield 6, and R.E.P.O. also climbed high in the best-seller charts on Steam, outlining the massive ongoing popularity of these titles.
Detroit: Become Human is an emotionally rich, story based open ended experience featuring branched narratives and tons of player choices with in-game consequences. The game tells the tale of a race of androids gradually breaking free from their in-built programming and conditioning to rise against their human creators in a series of player-defined narrative paths. The game also enjoys a tremendously high player rating of 94% positive among a total of 45000 reviews on Steam, clearly indicating an experience that’s almost universally loved and cherished.
Detroit: Become Human also represents what seems like the future of gaming as a medium which, instead of being solely about the gameplay experience, manages to fuse the gameplay with the narrative and creating an interactive experience that’s far more memorable and engrossing than pretty much anything that has come before.
