Michael revealed that it has extended the bucket of hardware that may be customized under the Xbox brand, unveiling two new controller shells based on the Pip-Boy interface aspect of the nostalgic Fallout universe. The new designs announced this week will not only later add appeal to fans waiting for release but also wrap this blockbuster video game franchise in an aspectic house with the Xbox platform after the successful adaptation into Amazon television.
The new designs, which are for the standard Xbox Wireless Controller and premium Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, replicate the look of the wrist computer featured in the game. The shells sport a dark mottled green background that phosphor-like neon green accents highlight for text and icons. In addition, the face of the controllers features a line-art silhouette of the Vault Boy mascot, and crucial inputs are labeled with appropriate Fallout terminology, such as V.A.T.S. on the left bumper and bash on the right.
These finely detailed controllers are available through the Xbox Design Lab, Microsoft’s platform for custom designs. The Pip-Boy shell design sells for $14.99 more than the basic cost of the controller. The Design Lab also has a segment discount for this holiday period in the base price of the hardware, so a complete Pip-Boy-themed controller package currently begins at $78.98 for the standard model or $164.58 for the Elite Series 2. Promo pricing is set to end by January 1.
The moment is interesting because it falls just days before the much-anticipated Season Two premiere of the Fallout television series slated for December 17. These new Pip-Boy shells add to the two previous Vault-Tec-themed designs, which debuted in March 2024, ensuring that a consumer-product release pattern consistent with the important broadcast dates for the streaming adaptation. These new accessories are compatible across Xbox consoles, PC, and mobile devices, allowing players to get a piece of the Wasteland into their preferred gaming set-up.
