The Black Ice has been out for almost a week, but it just got announced right now, it is clear that they aimed to release it on PC around Christmas to get some sales going. For fans of horror games, this seems like a neat but very short survival horror experience in the vein of Resident Evil and inspired by some PS2 titles. Made by what seems to be a small Russian team, The Black Ice offers a nostalgic experience for those seeking to relieve the older days of survival horror titles but adding a modern twist to it with the graphics of today.
The Black Ice seems interesting
I will have to admit that the demo felt much better, and the inventory system of this game is extremely punishing for people not accustomed to the genre. However, do not let that deter you, as you progress through the game you realize that its not as tough to handle if you know how to do it. Games require strategy to be played, especially those that are survival horror as inventory management has been there for a very long time. It currently sits a 78% of positive reviews, not half bad for a game of this kind.
It is clear that it still has some problems and bugs, but this is nothing that cannot be fixed with a patch, hopefully the developers are keen on trying to fix these issues to ensure that the experience is as smooth as possible. The Black Ice happens in a remote and mysterious research facility in Antarctica, where an intense atmosphere of fear and death hangs in the air. You try to survive in it by solving a variety of puzzles and trying to uncover the truth of what happened with the facility and why its overrun by monsters. If you are interested, you can wishlist it to help the developers.
