Lara Croft, one of the most iconic protagonists in gaming, is confirmed to make a huge comeback in the upcoming The Game Awards as it’s been revealed that a new Tomb Raider game will likely be showcased in the show. As an official tweet from Geoff Keighley reads: “As just revealed in our The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite map portal, tune in Thursday night for a look at the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises, Tomb Raider. This is one you won’t want to miss.”
Now there are lots of possibilities of what we may get to see in the form of a new Tomb Raider project in The Game Awards which include a whole new game that has been in the works by developer Crystal Dynamics for several years now. The ‘yet-to-be-announced’ Tomb Raider title was first revealed in 2022 and also sported a redesign for Lara Croft, which was shown in last year. However, nothing else is currently known about the new title, a fact that could likely change at this year’s The Game Awards which will take place on December 11.
First released back in 1996, the Tomb Raider series has become one of the most instantly-recognizable ones in all of gaming spanning across multiple console generations and even genres as well. The last mainline entry in the series was Shadow of the Tomb Raider which was released in 2018 to mostly positive reviews from both critics and players with it’s more exploration-driven gameplay getting the most amount of praise.
This year’s The Game Awards is already packed with all kinds of gems and surprises ranging from Resident Evil Requiem, 007: First Light and many more exciting upcoming titles to look forward to. And a new Tomb Raider title will also be a great addition to that lineup of games, so make sure to tune in to the show on December 11.
