As part of the ongoing massive deal of Netflix acquiring Warner Brothers in next year, the streaming giant will also have the games division of Warner Bros under it’s wing which includes acclaimed studios such as NetherRealm, Rocksteady, TT Games, and Avalanche. In a recent joint press release, it’s been confirmed that Netflix will be getting the Streaming & Studios part of Warner Bros. Discovery in the colossal $82.7 billion deal that’s underway.
Warner Bros. Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav has stated that last Friday’s press release announcement “combines two of the greatest storytelling companies in the world to bring to even more people the entertainment they love to watch the most.”
Also, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters has added “This acquisition will improve our offering and accelerate our business for decades to come.”
“With our global reach and proven business model, we can introduce a broader audience to the worlds they create—giving our members more options, attracting more fans to our best-in-class streaming service, strengthening the entire entertainment industry and creating more value for shareholders.”
And while there was no mention of the games division of Warner Brothers as part of the ongoing deal, it’s been later confirmed that Netflix is indeed going to own the entirety of the games division along with all the aforementioned studios.
And while it can put a legit question mark on any upcoming titles from those studios or even the current titles that are already in development, it’s important to remember that several studios that have undergone the acquisition including former heavyweight Rocksteady, haven’t really made a great game in many years and there aren’t any promising titles in development at this time either, at least any that we currently know of. So while the buyout can seem concerning for a lot of valid reasons, the possibility of any upcoming title getting affected in a negative way isn’t really there.
