It seems the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct Event which is going to take place in January next year will have a lot to look forward to, according to Microsoft. The publisher had a much quieter showcase at this week’s The Game Awards show with only announcing the next expansion for Diablo 4 and confirmation of South of Midnight officially launching on the Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 at some point, but Microsoft had kept a strict silence on some of their highly anticipated AAA heavy hitters such as the next Forza Horizon title, the new Fable or Halo: Campaign Evolved that’s set to come out in 2026.
And according to Microsoft president of game content and studios Matt Booty, news and showcases regarding those titles are likely reserved for the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct Event which is going to take place about a month from now.
“I can’t share exactly what’s there, but we’ve got a lot of stuff that we’re shipping next year. In fact, usually Dev Direct is about highlighting what’s coming up for the year ahead. This year, we’ve got more stuff coming up than we can fit in one show,” Booty said.
“So I will tell you that Playground Games is going to be in the Dev Direct, but we’ll have more stuff next year to ship than we can fit into one Dev Direct show in January, which is a good place to be.”
“It’s going to be a real banner year for the brand and a banner year for some of our biggest franchises to show up across the industry,” Booty concluded.
This means we will likely see a closer and more detailed look at Forza Horizon 6 which is currently being developed by Playground Games and perhaps we’ll also get more info on the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day and Halo: Campaign Evolved, as both are confirmed to be released in 2026.
