Pokémon GO will kick off 2026 by introducing another Paldean favorite with the new “Pinch Perfect” event. This event is set to run from January 6 at 10:00 a.m. to January 11 at 8:00 p.m. local time. It marks the official debut of Klawf, the Gen 9 Ambush Pokémon. Although the introduction of new species has slowed as Niantic nears the limit of the National Pokédex, this event aims to keep things lively by pairing the new Pokémon with the much-anticipated Shiny Dhelmise.
The event focuses on crustacean and aquatic themes, providing players several ways to add Klawf to their collections. In addition to standard wild encounters, Niantic will implement a rotating schedule of Timed Research. These tasks will be divided into three windows throughout the week and will specifically reward encounters with Klawf, along with shiny-eligible Pokémon like Corphish, Dwebble, and Clauncher. Players can purchase a $1.99 research ticket for extra encounters and Premium Battle Passes, but the main experience remains available through free Field Research tasks.
On the competitive front, the Raid rotation for the week features Dhelmise and Dondozo in three-star battles. Collectors should note that Dhelmise’s shiny form will be available, making this an excellent opportunity to hunt for the rare anchor-shaped ghost. To enhance the experience, a global 2x Catch XP bonus will be in effect for the entire event. This bonus is especially relevant after the recent level cap increase to 80, which has left even seasoned trainers eager for the large experience totals needed to reach the new limit.
As 2025 comes to a close, Pinch Perfect shows the careful balancing act Niantic faces. With fewer than 100 Pokémon left from the main series games, the developer is more dependent on shiny launches and strategic Paldean releases to fill the gap until Generation 10 arrives. By highlighting niche favorites like Klawf and providing significant XP incentives, the studio seems focused on keeping players engaged during the winter months.
