Goat Odyssey is a game for PC inspired by the aesthetics of shadow puppetry, and it looks simply amazing, all of the story will be told in a non-verbal way and its about a goat trying to reach to the moon. You could say that this game has the potential to be the goat if things go as planned, as the concept is quite crazy as one, but we need more crazy concepts in gaming to keep things interesting. There is a deluge of games in the triple A space that feel quite repetitive and samey, so we need something new to cut with the monotony.
Goat Odyssey seems promising
Goat Odyssey feels like a game we have to keep an eye on, this one is a true indie because its being done by an indie team with zero experience in the field, and it also does not rely on a publisher or any sort of weird tooling. We have reached a point in the industry where people don’t really know what an indie game is anymore, and honestly, I have been at fault when perpetuating this sort of misunderstanding. Indies need to explicitly be games made with a very low budget and there shouldn’t be a publisher backing it.
Back in the early days of gaming, when things were so much better than they are today, there was a boom of people making games and creating their own interesting worlds with engaging narratives. Be it RPG Maker titles, or even games fully built from the ground up indies didn’t really have a publisher behind them and they were often free to play with zero strings attached. I yearn to go back to the times were the industry was more honest, but it seems that we will have to keep fighting the good fight to go back to those times, Goat Odyssey makes me remember of them.
