Gang of Dragon is a project by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the man who left Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku behind to make his own company. Starring Don Lee, a Korean main character, it is clear that this might be a more serious take on the Yakuza series that might not work if it comes from the whimsical hands of Ryu Ga Gotoku. The departure of Nagoshi in 2021 was a big surprise and it indicates that the man is really seeking for some change of air. It is crazy that his first game is going to be a Yakuza clone with some extras, but sometimes its good to start with what you know.
Gang of Dragon is coming soon
There’s still no proper date for the game, at least from what people know, some theorize this game might drop in 2027 and judging from the type of game Gang of Dragon is, it makes tons of sense. Open World games with locations that aim to recreate real places are very hard to make, fans of the Yakuza series wonder if this game is going to have extra things similar to the Yakuza series, that being little shops in the corner of Japan that are filled with minigames. While it might degrade the seriousness this game seems to aim for, I believe its a must to include.
Gang of Dragon looks no different than the average action flick you would watch on the big screen, and it is clear that Nagoshi tries to aim for something that feels more cinematic. Those seeking mafia drama might be pleased to know that Gang of Dragon is made exactly for them, and while the whimsy vibes of Yakuza might not be present it might still worth to give it a try. You can wishlist Gang of Dragon on Steam if you are interested.
