Blizzard has officially announced Season 11 for Diablo 4, called the Season of Divine Intervention, which will launch on December 11. This seasonal update marks a big shift from previous content cycles. It introduces not only new temporary features but also a large set of permanent changes aimed at improving the core gameplay experience. The most important of these changes focuses on significant adjustments to the Tempering and Masterworking item-upgrading systems. There will also be a fundamental rebalancing of the overall difficulty curve.
The Season of Divine Intervention tells a story where Lesser Evils invade Sanctuary, leading to a major confrontation with the new World Boss, Azmodan. Players will get help from the angel Hadriel and use a new seasonal power called Divine Gifts, which come in both Corrupted and Purified forms. Additionally, a new Sanctification mechanic will be introduced, giving players another way to optimize their current equipment. These systems aim to provide flexible, powerful options to counter the renewed threat.
Beyond the seasonal mechanics, the core combat loop will see a significant increase in difficulty. Enemies will now act more intelligently and have stronger affixes, making them much tougher than in previous seasons. To address this higher threat level, Blizzard will add a new player defensive statistic, Toughness. This will serve as an overall measure of a character’s survivability and will be essential for high-level play. The update will also include six new Unique items, ensuring that each of Diablo 4’s classes gets new build possibilities.
Looking ahead to the December 11 launch, Blizzard plans to permanently reintroduce the competitive Tower dungeon and Leaderboards in update 2.5.2 in early 2026. The start of this season is also notable for its unusual timing; it will launch on a Thursday evening instead of the usual Tuesday morning. This change aligns the season’s start with The Game Awards 2025, leading to fan speculation that Blizzard may use the event to announce the long-awaited second expansion for Diablo 4.
