Seems like work for Naughty Dog’s upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been in full swing as developers in the studio have been required to work a minimum of eight extra hours per week, in order to meet deadline for an internal demo that will be reviewed by Sony. The current tight work schedule at Naughty Dog is according to a Bloomberg report which says that starting from late October, the employees and developers in the acclaimed studio have been required to work at least eight hours per week, though not more than 60 hours in total per week, and to record their time in an internal spreadsheet.
More details on the work schedule of Naughty Dog reveals the developers asked to work from the office five days per week, where previously the requirement had only been three days per week, with up to two days as work-from-home. It’s also reported that the internal demo has missed multiple deadlines in the past which is likely the reason for the heavy workload in the studio right now.
And as Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is possibly going to aim for a vastly different flavor of experience than all of the earlier titles released by Naughty Dog, the value of the internal demo which will be reviewed by Sony, is pretty immense in more ways than one.
However, the report also states that the mandated overtime at the studio has effectively ended this week and Naughty Dog will be returning to only three days per week in-office schedule through the end of January.
Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann had said earlier that Intergalactic will feature the “deepest gameplay” the studio has ever done which makes the upcoming title incredibly ambitious in the best possible way. But since only a sparse amount of release materials are available as of yet, there’s almost nothing to judge Druckmann’s statements on the game right now, however they do indicate that the combat mechanics of Intergalactic will probably have a lot of depth and versatility which would be really great.
Intergalactic has been in development for over four years and features a star studded cast of Tati Gabrielle from the Uncharted movie as protagonist Jordan A. Mun, and Kumail Nanjiani of Marvel’s Eternals as another in-game character called Colin Graves. The game is not expected to release till 2027 at the earliest.
