Death Howl gets an amazing release on PC, this new deck builder game looks very interesting and its made by a total of 3 indie developers themselves. While the term indie has been muddied as time went on at least this does not classify as a triple A release. Being supported by a publisher actually breaks the rules of being an indie when you use the explicit definition of the term, which is being independent of anything. Regardless, Death Howl looks very interesting and its currently sitting on a release discount, if you like dark fantasy and card games perhaps this is for you.
Death Howl came out
Death Howl is truly an interesting game to try out, with a ton of stuff to explore and card combos to build, I still don’t really get why this is pushed as a Souls-like however. While it does have many of the elements found in one such as respawning enemies and a tough difficulty to crack, this isn’t an action RPG but rather a strategy game with tactics in mind. The main idea that defines Dark Souls and other Souls-likes is the fact that they come from King’s Field, one of the first action RPGs in 3D.
It is popular to call everything a Souls-like to position better in the SEO oriented market of the internet, and sadly this takes precedence over accuracy, people want to be sold an idea. Even Silent Hill f was considered a Souls-like by some game journalists and despite it looking quite similar to one and being pretty focused in combat, it actually isn’t. Perhaps one day we will return to less hectic times where stuff were appropriately denominated instead of the confusing gaming world we live in today. If you are interested in Death Howl but can’t buy it, go and give it a position in your wishlist.
