CD Projekt Red’s Ambitious Roadmap Includes a Surprising Return to The Witcher 3

A decade after Geralt of Rivia first appeared on the current generation of consoles, the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may be expanding one last time. According to a new report from Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski, CD Projekt Red is planning a final piece of paid story DLC for the 2015 RPG, estimated for a May 2026 release. While the studio has spent years shifting its focus to the next chapter of the franchise, this move seems to be a strategic effort to boost the brand’s presence before the actual sequel takes center stage.

The financial projections suggest this will not be a minor update. Chrzanowski expects the expansion to cost $30, with a sales target of about 11 million copies. This release would likely coincide with the game’s long-delayed official mod support patch, which was recently pushed into the 2026 window. By revisiting a title that remains a key part of the RPG genre, CD Projekt Red seems determined to bridge the gap between its earlier titles and its upcoming “Polaris” project.

Looking further into the decade, the report outlines an ambitious, if costly, timeline for the studio. The Witcher 4 is currently set for a late 2027 release and will lead a new trilogy intended to finish by 2033. However, the cost of ambition is rising. The budget for this new trilogy has reportedly increased from $586 million to nearly $900 million. To manage these costs, the studio is using a multi-faceted approach, including a remake of the original Witcher and a multiplayer spin-off, both scheduled for 2028.

As for the studio’s other major project, fans of Night City will have to be patient. The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, is not expected until late 2030. The delay is due to the integration of multiplayer features and a desire to time the launch with the original game’s tenth anniversary. While these dates are still uncertain, they highlight a studio under significant pressure to deliver consistent hits while handling the rising costs of modern AAA development.
