Capcom Hints Potential New Games in the Devil May Cry, Mega Man and Ace Attorney Series

Even though Capcom’s flagship franchises are currently Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter which means the Japanese publisher gets more games made out of these series’ than the Ace Attorney, Mega Man and Devil May Cry series, a recent official statement from the company indicate that they could look into making new titles from the lesser known and rather niche series of games in the near future. In Capcom’s annual report, COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto clearly mentioned that the publisher is now looking to revitalize their less popular franchises in the form of whole new projects:

“At Capcom, our goal is to maintain annual operating income growth of at least 10%, while pursuing our long-term goal of selling 100 million units per year. To maximize our chances of success, we are focused on addressing business challenges one by one. Our efforts are focused on our flagship licenses such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, as well as the development of main series titles, sequels, remakes, new licenses, and content ports for the latest generation of consoles. We regularly release two to three major new titles each year, but we recognize the need to expand our game catalog in the future.

Capcom has an impressive catalog of globally popular brands, such as Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney. Our goal is to expand our user base and improve our performance through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles from these series to new platforms. By strengthening the awareness of these brands and building loyalty among our fans, we will transform them into flagship licenses.”

The most exciting takeaway from this is the possibility of getting a new Devil May Cry game which is quite likely as the acclaimed hack-n-slash title has been confirmed to sold an impressive 10 million copies back in June this year. And although Hideaki Itsuno who had been the game director for several Devil May Cry titles including DMC 5, is now no longer at Capcom, the possibility of seeing another DMC title in the works is great news for all fans and players alike. Let’s just hope it’s not a forgettable “reboot” like the one Capcom did way back in 2013.
