The PS5 has just completed it’s fifth year and has had a phenomenal run with overall sales reaching more than a staggering 84 million units so far and according to PlayStation’s senior VP of marketing, sales and business operations Eric Lempel, the PS5 era is actually only at it’s halfway with it’s best-selling title yet to be released.
Speaking to BBC News recently, Lempel stated, “I would say we’re really hitting our stride now,” while also suggesting that the biggest title on the PS5 is yet to come: “I’m not going to tell you which one, but I think it’s still to come.”
And although there are several potential contenders for the best selling PS5 game such as the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine and Saros, it’s also obvious that Lempel is actually referring to Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 as the real sales juggernaut for the PS5. Even though the release date for the open world behemoth has been recently pushed to November 2026, the overall hype and anticipation for the game is still through the roofs. Also, the fact that GTA 6 will only be available for the consoles at least for a year if not more, Rockstar’s urban open world odyssey is destined to move a ton of PS5 (and the Xbox consoles as well) during that time.
Meanwhile, the current best selling title on the PS5 is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with Marvel’s Spider Man 2 in a respectable second position. And according to Sony’s recent investors report, this year’s Ghost of Yotei is also doing exceptionally well with the game already confirmed to have sold around 3.3 million copies since launch and those numbers sure to grow even higher in the coming weeks and months.
Overall, the PS5 certainly has one of the best console runs in videogame history and after the release of the mighty GTA 6 in 2026, it’s guaranteed to soar even higher.
