The Steam Frame is coming and PC gaming seems to be evolving when we least expect it. This reveal by Valve was rather crucial to the industry, as it is clear the company behind Steam is trying to aim for a niche that seems under explored. While not everyone is okay with the idea of VR due to various reasons, it is nice to try and experiment with it from time to time, and see if anything truly new can arise from it. Out of all the Web 3 type of technologies, VR is definitely the least harmful one of the bunch, as there’s ways to actually make something neat out of it.
Steam Frame is the future of VR
Forget the Meta Glasses, or Google Glasses, VR is an industry that Valve will be dominating. Perhaps we might see crazy experiences in the future if creatives get wacky enough with the possibilities provided by this new piece of hardware. There is a ton of challenges to tackle when building a headset, comfort and safety are of utmost importance when it comes to doing one and it seems that companies often fail to account for this. Price is another thing to remember, if it is too expensive like many, then maybe people won’t be willing to put money into it.
The Steam Frame needs support with good games that are worth playing, not metaverse experiences that have existed for decades now. A first person shooter made with this technology seems to have great potential, and Half Life Alyx seemed to be right that. Although one has to admit, Half Life Alyx would have done better if it also offered people the ability to play the game without the need of a headset. Thankfully modders have decided that they should build a workaround for that. We might not be needing the Steam Frame anytime soon.
