If you’ve been waiting for Naughty Dog’s upcoming new flagship title Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it seems you need to wait quite a bit longer cause according to Insider Gaming, Intergalactic will not be releasing in 2026, at all. Plus, the game won’t be present in this year’s The Game Awards too, where it was first revealed last year.
Seen from a different perspective though, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet not being released anytime next year makes complete sense as there’s only one game which will be all over 2026 and it’s none other than Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6. Next year will also see tons of promotional contents including new trailers, gameplay videos and more getting released at large on GTA 6 which will not only eclipse every other title there is, but every other form of entertainment slated to release in 2026 too. And that’s why, all other major AAA release would want to steer clear of GTA 6 which makes Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet not arriving next year a no-brainer.
Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann had said earlier that Intergalactic will feature the “deepest gameplay” the studio has ever done which makes the upcoming title incredibly ambitious in the best possible way. But since only a sparse amount of release materials are available as of yet, there’s almost nothing to judge Druckmann’s statements on the game right now, however they do indicate that the combat mechanics of Intergalactic will probably have a lot of depth and versatility which would be really great.
In another interview, Druckmann has stated that Intergalactic is possibly Naughty Dog’s most expensive game yet which also drives the anticipation up in more ways than one.
Intergalactic has been in development for over four years and features a star studded cast of Tati Gabrielle from the Uncharted movie as protagonist Jordan A. Mun, and Kumail Nanjiani of Marvel’s Eternals as another in-game character called Colin Graves. The game is not expected to release till 2027 at the earliest.
