Following a rough 1.0 release, Escape From Tarkov launched on Steam on November 15. Battlestate Games is now sharing its plans for the rest of 2025. Game director Nikita Buyanov recently addressed the community’s concerns and laid out the immediate and long-term goals for the tough extraction shooter. The launch faced several server issues, leading to an online apology from Buyanov and earning a “Mixed” rating on Steam, a disappointment after years of waiting.
The immediate focus for the development team is on stability and improving core gameplay. Buyanov confirmed that Battlestate Games will spend the upcoming months speeding up the release of fixes and general improvements. This commitment aims to stabilize the player experience after the initial technical challenges.
In addition to essential technical work, the later part of 2025 will bring major content updates. Players can look forward to “winter in Tarkov,” a seasonal change that will affect map navigation and combat. This environmental shift will come with new storyline quests and a fresh in-game event. The year will wrap up with the traditional New Year TarkovTV stream in December, which will provide an update on the game’s ongoing development.
Looking further ahead, the studio plans more significant changes. Buyanov mentioned the eventual addition of a seasonal character system, which will introduce a complete seasonal structure to the game. However, this feature is expected to arrive “sometime after” the immediate updates, so it is unlikely to be implemented in 2025.
The far-off but important announcements relate to the game’s future platform and content expansions. Earlier reports confirmed that Escape From Tarkov is coming to consoles and will receive its first post-launch DLC, Scav Life. While these developments excite players, they are not expected to happen soon. Industry experts suggest that the second half of 2026 is a more realistic timeframe for their release. Battlestate Games seems dedicated to enhancing the Tarkov experience, promising a strong path of improvements and expansions leading into 2026.
