Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 has just reached another milestone as the game is now confirmed to have sold 4 million copies so far which Capcom has officially confirmed in their social media, stating: “Thank you to the four million Arisen around the world! We’re grateful to share the immersive fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 with you all, where freedom and adventure await.”
And while the sales figures are highly impressive for the action RPG that came out a year ago, many fans are also yearning for more post-release contents from the game, especially in the form of a DLC or even better, a full expansion pack.
Many older fans of the Dragon’s Dogma series are currently highlighting The Dark Arisen expansion that came out for the original Dragon’s Dogma as the blueprint for a new DLC or any expansion pack if Capcom chooses to make one at this point. And although there’s no official news regarding any of that from Capcom yet, there’s a chance they may decide to do one as now the game has confirmed to reach a sufficiently high sales figure which clearly indicates that fans would definitely be up for more bonus contents from Dragon’s Dogma 2 so the incentive is definitely there, at least.
However, as Hideaki Itsuno, the director of Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma 2 has left Capcom after working for the company for more than 30 years, the chance of there being another installment of even a DLC is pretty slim. Back in August with an interview with VGC, he had stated that he is really proud of how Dragon’s Dogma 2 has turned out even though the game didn’t really resonate with a “certain type of audience.”
“I made the game not like a Nintendo one to be liked by all the people, but for a certain type of audience, so it’s normal if some people outside that target audience don’t like the game,” he said. “However, people who enjoyed the game really loved it, appreciated the details and work. I’m very proud of it.”
Besides Dragon’s Dogma, Hideaki Itsuno was also instrumental behind Capcom’s highly successful and iconic Devil May Cry series and his departure from the company has rightfully raised concerns on the future of DMC for a lot of players.
