Blue Prince 2 will not happen, according to the development team. Sometimes, developers need a bit of rest before they can do something good, and going quick into the masses can only make the process worse by putting more eyes and expectations upon them. This is the reason why the team behind Blue Prince are considering for a wildly different approach set in the same narrative universe that this game operates in. They mention that they don’t like making things that have the same genre, or are similar to one another, so it is nice to have something different under a different name.
Blue Prince 2 is out of the question
But a successor isn’t however, because doing another game that happens in the same universe allows people to gain more understanding of the world they like to explore. More developers should aim to do something like this, creating a bigger world view with different genres and games that aren’t exactly related by paint a broader vision of a narrative. Most of the time, companies will only push a sequel with massive changes that make no sense, angering fans and even people who wanted to get into the franchise.
Indie developers try to avoid this common mistakes that big companies often make, creating better games and experiences in the process. Despite the sad news of Blue Prince 2 being out of the way in any capacity, at least its better than receiving news of a sequel that is bad. While the team behind Blue Prince did an amazing job with this work, and I have no doubts they would do the same with a sequel, it is up to us to respect their creative wishes. We need more Myst-likes in the market, by yesterday even, and the fact that they are planning one instead of a Blue Prince 2 is amazing.
