World of Warcraft launched its annual Hallow’s End on October 18, which came with some renewed cosmetic items for players in the current The War Within expansion. The infamous Headless Horseman encounter has been revamped as part of the limited-time festival on offer this year between October 18 and November 1 to drop an updated set of gear themed on this event, thus calling both veteran and new adventurers to visit the Scarlet Monastery to participate in the seasonal boss fight.
The main reason for tackling this daily encounter is the chance of completing the Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Armor set. Unlike every previous year when players simply got event gear, this time around, players will have guaranteed access to one unique, non-duplicate piece of this armor after any successful first defeat of the Horseman each day. In addition to this, collectors are chasing the highly-sought-after mount for the season again. Found within the Loot-Filled Pumpkin – a one-time daily reward – the Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Charger has been visually updated from the generally rare original horse that was a part of the game’s history, offering modernized models for those who may not find the classic drop.
Beyond the boss loot, an entirely new range of Ghoulish weaponry is being offered by dedicated event vendors stationed outside the capital cities. These include a two-handed great blade, a one-handed sword, and a matching bulwark shield. All acquired through Tricky Treats, the event’s unique currency, these items can be purchased with event currency. Treats can be gathered in a variety of ways, including checking Candy Buckets scattered all around Azeroth in different inns, completing various seasonal holiday quests, and eventually bringing the Headless Horseback himself down.
Hallow’s End dates back to Warcraft 3 lore, but mainly for the Forsaken faction, who celebrate Hallow’s End for its own reasons; in this case, to recognize its freedom from the Lich King’s bondage. The new Ghoulish-themed cosmetics will be available only with The War Within, but the accompanying Hallow’s End event remains open to players playing in WoW Classic. All of that historical fun returns every winter for the guaranteed gear and collecting opportunities, resulting in a vibrant, festive atmosphere in the regions while preparation is made for future content updates.
