Umblight is clearly based on Inscryption, even the developer behind it states that he is an Inscryption fan. Not to mention that this game exists thanks to the fact that there won’t be an Inscryption 2 in the making. This is fine, sometimes things are better left as a single entry rather to keep expanding further, many PC games lost their spark when a sequel happened. After all, there is no such thing as a Mona Lisa 2, or anything like that in the field of art, games are the same they are art first and a product later. I believe it is fair to talk about Umblight.
Umblight is coming soon
There’s still no specified date for when Umblight will release, but many believe it will be in the early months of 2026. If things go well by then, we will be able to enjoy this one quite soon. This game has been in development for more than 1 year, and the seems that after the news of no Inscryption 2 being in the works, the developer took it upon himself to just make it himself. While trying to clone Inscryption might not be particularly creative, the developer decided to add his own flair to the game, and it is still a small project for fans of the classic PC title.
Indies are getting saturated with games everywhere, and people struggle trying to see what to play since there’s so many options to pick from. Thankfully, there’s ways to filter this out, any sort of game that uses generative “AI” is out of the list of buying, as they aren’t even worth pirating them since there’s nothing to preserve. I always focus on bringing passion projects such as Umblight or things done without any sort of generative algorithms, since the joy of gaming is in overcoming difficulties during the creative process, art is the process.
