Thems Fightin Herds has been acquired by a group called Gameplay Group International, who was born out of the need to preserve games allegedly. The popular PC fighter has seen better days, but now its on the hands of a group that seems to know what they are doing. There’s still a lot of roads to cross, this acquisition can be a blessing, or a curse depending on how the pieces are assembled. The company is new, and they seem to have a knack for preserving titles and they cite Stop Killing Games as a major reason to do so, they also focus on reviving cancelled titles.
Thems Fightin Herds is coming back soon
A slew of new content seems to be planned for the game, this fighter is truly amazing as it is a great opportunity to get to know the genre better and learn from clearly defined fighting game archetypes. Few games in the fighting game genre try to cater to the niche that is teaching people how to actually play these games correctly, a title I can think of that might have had that intention was Power Quest for the old GBC console, and maybe some Street Fighter entry. Fighting games tend to be the hardest games to make too, especially something of the caliber of Thems Fightin Herds.
We can hopefully expect that the original team can keep working on the game, as the vision behind it is theirs. Removing the original team from the equation can only lead to disaster, and many times it has happened that games have failed to meet expectations because the people responsible for doing them were axed mid production. This isn’t the case from Thems Fightin Herds since its a finished work, but who knows, maybe they include things that aren’t what the team originally intended.
