The acclaimed studio behind the celebrated 2019 action RPG, Obsidian Entertainment, has confirmed that the sequel will feature a pet system where a player would be able to “acquire and interact with” pets- first reported by Game Informer. Already expectedly announced, gold-edition at the gamer’s table now, release date comes on October 29, 2025, which now features a promising line of directed reference to the people-the public demand key request that promised a more personal in-game experience of the player’s journey onboard the ship, the Unreliable.
According to the developers, the mechanic will closely follow how it was presented by Anubis, the small canid companion introduced in the Peril on Gorgon expansion for the original title. Thus, pets will be confined to the player’s ship and serve as only interactivity-and as decoration-which will get interesting, new lines from the human companions that travel with the player. Most importantly, players can only have one pet active at any time. Although that precedent of the first title has set the limit, it, however, meets the age-old fan craving for an animal pet in a satirical, corporately controlled environment of the Halcyon system.
Most of the possible creatures that may accompany would-be companions remain tightly under wraps, but one option, according to Obsidian, will be a weaponless Protectorate Drone. This option indicates that pets should have a special connection with the game’s distinctly satirical, anti-corporate science fiction atmosphere. Besides the companionship feature, The Outer Worlds 2 promises an overall redesign of its core gameplay systems, including a wider range of weapons and strengthened first-person-shooting mechanics; all these were being targeted to be assisted by teams like those from Halo Studios to polish gunplay.
More ambitious than its predecessor, the sequel is creating a whole new solar system for players to traverse and explore. Coupled with that is a whole new cast of characters. However, it also promises to build on the quirky humor and quality classic RPG mechanics instrumental in making The Original 2019 a cult hit to provide players with a rich, detail-filled narrative and mechanical experience late next year.
