Niantic is basically overhauling the Trainer progression model entirely for Pokémon GO and is setting a sure increase in player level cap from 50 to 80. The massive change, which has taken nine years since the game was first launched, will take effect on October 15 and is the biggest overhaul to the core leveling experience since introducing the Level 50 cap. This, according to the developer, will reward long-time players while decluttered their path for new Trainers by drawing a more even experience curve across all tiers of play.
The changes are built on the re-evaluation of experience points necessary for ascent. While indeed extending the whole grind, the total XP needed to reach that new capped ceiling of Level 80 will be 203,353,000. On top of that, Niantic confirmed using all earned experience by players retroactively towards this new curve so that every Trainer who is Level 23 or higher will instantaneously have their rank elevated once implemented. The Level-Up Research tasks for progression through levels 41 to 50 are disappearing, only to come back around the new heights Levels 71 to 80.
To spice up that extended journey, a lot of new rewards are being brought into the fold. Level milestones will today grant an increment in the maximum Pokémon storage capacity, as well emblems of avatar items, like special cap, shoe, and jacket sets themed Poke, Great, and Ultra Balls. A new Daily Adventure Egg is being introduced in Daily Progression, which is a 1km Egg that will be automatically issued daily upon login (for players level 15 and above) and will provide an addition of 10,000 XP upon hatching and offer a consistent, least-performed experience boost.
These changes are blatantly secondary to the veteran community, making long-term goals for playing the game even longer, especially for high-level players-specific changes. For instance, at that level, it would make it easier for Best Friends at Level 70 or above to achieve the coveted status of Lucky Friend. Such sweeping adjustments seem indicative of an undeterred commitment by Niantic to the long-term health of the title and present a grand new horizon for a community that has largely peaked at the previous level cap, ensuring renewed focus on progression just as significant in-game events are set to start in the coming weeks.
