According to a new report from Alinea Analytics, the recently released Ghost of Yotei has already surpassed Assassin’s Creed Shadows in terms of sales on the Playstation 5. As per the report, Ghost of Yotei has sold 2.5 million copies on the PS5 so far while Assassin’s Creed Shadows which has been out for a total of seven months, has sold 2.4 million copies on the Sony platform.
And considering it’s only been around 4 weeks since Ghost of Yotei came out on the PS5, it’s pretty much guaranteed to sell even more units and widen the sales gap even further.
Alinea’s report also outlines that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has managed to sell over 4.3 million copies across all platforms so far with 56% of it’s total sales on the PS5, 26% on the Xbox systems and a significantly lower 18% on Steam. This is also possibly the first time we’re getting any concrete sales figures for Shadows, which is pretty impressive though nowhere near some of it’s predecessors’ sales numbers.
And compared to it’s predecessor Ghost of Tshushima, Ghost of Yotei’s sales were a bit lower with 1.6 million copies in the first three days where the former title had managed to sell 2 million copies in the same span of time.
What made the sales comparison between Ghost of Yotei and this year’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows much more interesting is the fact that both games share the same setting along with multiple plot points as well. But as far as the war of the samurai is concerned on the PS5, Yotei is doing much better than Shadows did since it came out, which also indicates slightly less interest from players in Ubisoft’s long running franchise.
Ghost of Yotei came out 2nd October and has received highly favorable reviews since it’s release with both it’s combat mechanics and engrossing narrative getting the most praises. In terms of gameplay, story and open world exploration, the game is considered a definite improvement and a natural evolution over it’s predecessor Ghost of Tshushima.
